What is Peckins Studio Online?

Peckins Studio Online is a membership website, offering ambitious violin students access to hundreds of violin lessons (recorded videos and PDF’s) for a monthly subscription fee.

Is this good for advanced players?

The Advanced Violin Seminar offers an incredible opportunity to advanced players (conservatory students and beyond) to study technique at an incredibly sophisticated level. Do not miss this special resource! The general collection of technique lessons may also helpful as a library of exercises, and some of the lessons on practice skills and etudes may also be of interest.

Costs and Cancelation/Refund Policy?

It costs $15 per month for unlimited access. You can start with a 2-week free trial (first time subscribers only). If you cancel before your free trial ends, you will not be billed. If you do not cancel, you will be charged $15 per month, with automatic monthly renewal, until and unless you cancel. You can cancel online anytime - easy instructions are here, and a link to those instructions is also in the footer of every page. We do not offer refunds or partial/pro-rated refunds for months already billed.

What is included?

The collection currently includes over 200 video lessons and PDF’s, and over 24 hours of video - an incredible value of over $2,500! There are materials for beginners, intermediate players, and highly advanced artist-level violinists. Our lessons break down the technique, show you how to practice, and de-mystify many complex issues of violin playing. Most videos are filmed in HD with clear demonstrations, and everything is available to stream online 24/7. Detailed lessons on individual etudes, pieces, and exercises bring conservatory-level training - often only available to a select group of private students - to your computer, available 24/7.

What is not included?

This site does not give personal feedback or individualized instruction, only pre-recorded materials available to stream online. This is intended as a supplement to violin lessons, not a teach-yourself course. (Be very skeptical of anyone who tells you it is possible learn the violin without an in-person teacher!) You should use this site under the guidance of a qualified, professional teacher to make sure you are understanding the material correctly.

This does not include an instrument or sheet music. (This would be the same with almost any serious teacher.) You will have to buy or rent an instrument, some accessories, and sheet music. We put together a guide for buying supplies here.

Who is Joshua Peckins?

Violinist Joshua Peckins has taught for over a decade in Vienna and Boston, and is on the faculty of the New England Conservatory Prep School. Former students are currently pursuing successful performance careers in the United States, Canada, England, and Austria, and have been accepted into the Eastman School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Boston Conservatory, Longy School of Music, the Prayner Conservatory in Vienna, the San Francisco Conservatory, the Schulich School of Music at McGill, Colombia, and MIT.

In addition to teaching, he has enjoyed a successful performance career, ranging from Carnegie Hall to Bejing’s Performing Arts Center to Palais Palfay in Vienna.
